Hydrogen infrastructure that moves heavy-duty fleets forward
We help fleet operators and infrastructure partners plan, develop, integrate, and digitally optimize hydrogen refueling infrastructure — independently, technology-neutral, and focused on the right solution for each project.
The Problem We Solve
Why promising hydrogen projects struggle to become bankable
Hydrogen infrastructure does not fail because the ambition is too high. It fails when demand, technology, funding, and operations are planned separately. Producers, suppliers, integrators, and fleet operators often work in silos, while projects are scaled before anchor demand is secured. The result is underused infrastructure, weak economics, and early-stage stations operating at roughly 30% utilization: a gap that subsidy alone cannot close.

How We Solve It
One independent partner from feasibility to operation
Vanguard H2 Systems brings the critical actors together around one coherent system. We focus on projects with real anchor demand, keep technical integration under control, and add a proprietary digital platform designed to lift station utilisation by 20–40% — with an EPO patent application in progress.
Our Services
Four stages, one client journey
We guide each engagement through a clear, end-to-end journey — from initial assessment to a fully optimized, digitally managed station. Rather than advising from the sidelines, Vanguard H2 Systems helps structure, build, and operate every stage with continuity and accountability.
Step 01 — Advisory
Every client relationship starts with a clear technical and economic review. We assess feasibility, regulatory readiness, funding options, and supplier fit — independently, with no equipment to sell and no supplier bias.
EU regulatory readiness assessment
Hydrogen feasibility study
Funding application support for BMDV, NIP, KfW, and IPCEI programs
Technology advisory and supplier review
Step 02 — Project Development
Once feasibility is confirmed, Vanguard H2 Systems structures the project for delivery and investment readiness. We coordinate site selection, demand aggregation, financing, permitting, and funding applications, turning a viable concept into a bankable hydrogen infrastructure project.
Site selection and anchor demand aggregation
Business case development and financial modelling
Funding strategy, coordination, and application management
Investor, permitting, and stakeholder alignment
Step 03 — System Integration
Vanguard H2 Systems develops the HRS architecture, guides technology selection, and coordinates EPC execution while maintaining independent technical oversight from design through delivery.
HRS architecture design and technology selection
Supplier and EPC contractor coordination
Independent technical oversight from design to commissioning
Regulatory and permitting coordination in NRW
Step 04 — Digital Operations (Platform under active development)
The Vanguard H2 Systems digital platform is currently under active development and is designed to improve station utilization, manage demand, and create recurring value for operators through data-driven operations. Planned platform capabilities include:
AI-driven scheduling and demand forecasting
Dynamic pricing and utilization optimization
Predictive maintenance using PLC and SCADA data
Performance monitoring and asset reporting
Who We Work With
For operators and developers ready to make hydrogen work
Logistics & freight operators — decarbonizing long-haul and regional HDV fleets
Public transport operators — meeting Clean Vehicles Directive requirements
Port & inland waterway operators — exploring hydrogen for auxiliary power
Infrastructure developers — validating projects with independent technical expertise
Our Vision
The hydrogen transition needs an independent integration layer
Beyond hardware alone
The infrastructure gap in heavy-duty hydrogen mobility will not be closed by equipment alone. It requires coordinated project development, operational intelligence, and an independent partner with no equipment to sell — only the mandate to identify the right solution. Vanguard H2 Systems is building that missing integrator layer, starting in NRW and extending across the Rhine-Ruhr-Rotterdam corridor and beyond.

Who I Am
About the founder
Vanguard H2 Systems was founded by Dr. Victor Rangel-Hernández, an industrial engineer with more than two decades of experience in energy systems research and thermoeconomic analysis. His career spans Forschungszentrum Jülich, where he researched fuel cell degradation, and Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, where he led thermodynamic simulations of hybrid hydrogen systems. After identifying a critical gap in how hydrogen projects are assessed and delivered, he founded VH2S to provide fleet operators and infrastructure developers with a truly independent technical partner.
